(Geez … I hope this works!) WORMS. Don’t particularly like ‘em, got cats who’ve had‘em, but now they’ve hit the 06 Deluxe Superspeed and tore the ?!%# outta my hard drive. Took my files and sent them to gigabyte glory …
Sooooo, after rebuilding everything on an old PC (after oiling the cage in the back and replacing the mummified hamster) with Ye Windowse (18)98, I’m back in the biz.
Found an old floppy disk in the drive, though … had a document file that read, “Minnie … do not worry; the Titanic will certainly float!”
Another strange thing is that, whenever I come to this site to put up a new post, I’m hearing the lonely sounds of crickets in the background; it’s kinda quiet at the old RR&R post! No replies yet (awww, that … that’s just … snif! … that’s just smoke in my eyes, man. I’m not …)
Awww, let’s go on:
Just finished revising the Searchers page on Solid Gold ROCK!©. These guys never cease to amaze me; not only were they second only to the Beatles in Liverpudlian popularity, but their performance sets influenced artists like the Byrds, Cryan’Shames (an American group who covered Sugar and Spice and had to sub an “a” in their first name to keep from being confused with a popular Brit group of the same moniker), and The Nightcrawlers (who remembers Little Black Egg?), among others.
But, here in the 06, their popularity is actually growing to match that of the early years — not an easy accomplishment for any ’60’s act that’s still onstage! The foursome now include founding member John McNally (guitar), Frank Allen (bassist who came onboard in ‘64), Spencer James (guitar, also created First Class’ ‘74 hit Beach Baby, which the Searchers use in their live sets) and Mud’s Eddie Rothe (drums).
And they’ve got a US tour coming up in July! Check out the dates, and more about the group (past and present) by going to The Searchers website. If you’re in the tour area, give ‘em a visit … and prepare for a dynamite show.
I see where Ray Davies (Kinks) is trying to get McCartney to, in his words, ‘go extreme’ with his music. Says he’s too MOR, and should be either a bit wilder, or go the other way and do stuff for musicals. (Who? Paul? Naaaaah … it just doesn’t fit!)
By the way … look for new CDs from both of John’s sons (Julian and Sean) this year. No, they’ll be separate product … but the bet’s on Julian’s being the better. Dunno … Sean’s got a fantastic voice … dad would be proud …
(ummmm, hang on … awwww, hell … the cat ate my hamster! Gotta go to Petland again. Or get a newer computer. Again.) Be back in a couple with the Relic’s new website!
