Veneration of a Generation

Published by therockrelic under Uncategorized Edit This

Over the past few weeks, the RR has been busy modifying the Spaper I toldja about in the last post. And, while I appreciate all the emails you sent (not to me — I’m just glad you’re out there sending emails to friends, lovers and disenchanted Foley supporters. I didn’t get any), the final banner (awww, read it any way ya want! I ain’t touchin’ it!) is (well, she told me not to …) simply Generation … but, depending on where it appears, it’ll have the area (like Tri-State, Piedmont, Venusian Outer Core) preceding it. And it’ll be about the baby-boomer era, 1946-1956/1964/1970 (depending on who you’re talkin’ to).
Also, I’ve been asked by at least two hundred (this is not an exaggeration!) to return ringside as announcer for some indy (gulp!) pro wrestling cards. Soooooooo, I’ve brushed off “the voice” (heck … gave up on the hair and face long ago!) and signed on with a local show for monthly ringside stints.
Now … gettin’ back to the title of this particular blog:
In doin’ the Spaper, I’m really amazed at the overall effect of our generation. In fact, most overalls worn today are directly connected to us. Seriously, though: When ya think about all the strides taken over the past years … from the minds that built this information superhighway to those who took the stateside R&B and country music and transformed it into a modern-day musical miracle called “rock”, to those who made cable, CDs and cell phones a reality … and especially the maniacal musical masses who pushed so hard for peace that they ended a vicious war, you’ve got an amazing generation that must be venerated in history books for centuries from now (provided terra firma remains so for that long)!
But …
while our gen has a lot to “pat itself on the back” about, there’s a heavy responsibility that goes along with that accolade. Y’see, we’ve got the chance to pass on all that we’ve learned … the “cause-and-effect” of the baby-boom years … to our kids and grandkids. Look: If ANY generation learned the difference between right-and-wrong, the result of focused and united causes, the meaning of LOVE and PEACE, OURS did! And it’s OUR BIG CHANCE to share that with FUTURE generations … as in NOW!!
Who knows? Maybe, sometime in the near future, our progeny can pick up the gauntlet and stop this idiotic war … bring prices down to a sensible level … lessen crime on the streets …
and bring a sense of peace and well-being, once again, to the US of A.
Dr. King had a Dream. RFK had a Vision. The Beatles had a Goal. We picked up the ball from them.
Let’s not drop it, okay?

Now … a coupla quicknotes before next post:

  • Man, didja see Jerry Lewis on Law and Order: SVU a coupla weeks back? The man put in an Emmy-winner for sure as the ‘derelict’ uncle of Det. John Munch (Richard Belzer) who, with assistance from his nephew, returned to his meds — in time to … well, you’ll have to catch it on re-run if ya didn’t see it. But, believe me, the dude still has the touch! An amazing performance!
  • Can ya believe the former Lady Macca? Ms. Mills has told press that McCartney “smoked marijuana and drank” during their marriage! And that’s a sell-point to get the judge to award the big bux to her?? Ummm … would somebody tell her she was married to a rock icon, who’d gone through more personal heartache over the past ten years than she had in a lifetime??
  • LOOKIN’ FOR YOUR MEMORIES AND THOUGHTS! Listen … if you’ve got any thoughts, memories or articles you’d like to submit for publishing in the spaper, just email me at the address that’s covered up by this line here. Or just post an entry to this blog, okay? Now, they’ve gotta relate to the baby-boomer years, and you’ll get a byline in the header as well as on the credits page ANNND free copies of the GENERATION paper as soon as it’s off the press.

Well, that’s it for this go-’round. Til next week …
See ya on the flip side ..
