McCartney Beaten?? (And MORE News …)
Hey … it was a surprise to me, too …
I mean, here we were, feelin’ sorry for Sir Paul ’cause Ms. Whoever (how soon we forget!) scarfed beau coup bucks from the ex-Beatle when they finally split. But, alas, it looks like Phil Collins has beaten Macca in the amount of shell-out.
His ex (Orianne; they were only married two years, btw!) is gettin’ 53 million from the former Genesis drummer. Now, he’d already paid 34 million to his second wife (Phil’s first wife ran off with their decorator and didn’t get any Yeah. Right. But I mean “MONEY” here! geez …)
Anyway: So McCartney, while “beaten” by Collins, can breathe a little more freely now …
Remember the Bossa Nova (like those cats at UCLA are doin’ in the pic)? It was called the dance of love (and displaced hips, bruised soles and irate parents), and was one of the hundreds of dances popping up in the early Sixties.
Well, the “grandfather of the Bossa Nova”, a fellow named Dorival Caymmi died yesterday of cancer and organ failure in Rio. He was 94. He’d also written the Andy Williams hit, Das Roses, years ago. In his memory, the state governors of Bahia and Rio de Janiero have declared three days of official mourning.
Let’s see … by now-plus-58 years ago, if The Relic had the load then that he has now, he probably would be hittin’ the Marlboros (or else need his diaper seriously changed!). That brings me to (taaa-daaaa!!!) the Question of the Week:
“What does Relic do when he’s not writing his blog?”
Hmmm … let’s seeeee here: He (a) keeps up his two other blogs … and website … and MySpace page, (b) writes business reviews for clients, (c) composes a quarterly, hard-copy newspaper, (d) writes hard-copy rock articles, (e) collates the latest news found on the Rock-Wire, (f) does stateside promotion for The Fore (one of his most enjoyable works!) (g) keeps up his house and pets and (h) eats — and (i) on occasion, he’s even known to sleep! When called upon, he also does public appearances.
Any … other … questions, Thomas??
ON OUR COMING GENERATION
Y’know, with the political and military madness goin’ on in the world today, there’s a cryin’ need to get the energy of Sixties rock transferred to the new generation! I mean, as ya listen to this song, remember that, back-in-the-day, that energy helped stop a war in Vietnam, brought civil rights to blacks, voting rights to 18ers and equal rights to women. It brought lower crime, better interaction with others, and, on the whole, a happier feeling.
As we listen, we’ve gotta remember: a new generation’s singing its lyrics, whether they know it or not! It’s up to us (the baby-boomers) to listen to them as we wanted someone to hear us!
THE COMING GENERATION
Well, that’s all for this episode, yardbirds! Until tomorrow (when you can tune in twice daily for yer ‘rock-roll-and-remember’ fix), remember whatcha do:
Keep your eyes on the skies, your feet on the ground, your heart with the music …
and I’ll see ya on the flip side.
