WHO’S ‘WHO?’

It’s official: The BBC says little-known actor Matt Smith will take over the title role in the long-running sci-fi series “Doctor Who” (this show was a fave of mine [and my two young sons] way back in the ’80s). The 26-year-old is the 11th actor to star in one of Britain’s most popular TV shows– and the youngest!

Now, he’s appeared on the London stage and starred in the political TV drama Party Animals (as Danny), but, still, very few people have actually heard of him. No doubt the new role will make him a major star in Britain, where “Doctor Who” regularly draws 10 million viewers an episode!

The present star, David Tennant, is planning to leave the show after four special episodes later this year. Smith will then take over in 2010.

A FEW EXTRA NOTES

First, to set the record straight (I’ve had a few E(agle)-mails about this): Yes, it is John Lennon’s voice on the One Laptop Per Child commercial. Yoko had to give her permission for it to be butchered … er, used … for it.
Now, let’s get real: Do you think, knowing of the hunger and despair for millions of impoverished children worldwide, that John would pitch a laptop computer to end their troubles?? Or would he rather endorse food and medical assistance? Think about it …

Hey … remember when I toldja that The Fore won the top spot on The Unsigned Charts Show with their hit, You’ll Be Mine ? Thanx to fans like you who voted on the UCS site, they worked their way past a lot of great acts and won the top spot during the Christmas season!
Well, here’s your chance to do it again! This time, it’s their plaintive, soulful hit Emma (from their Run and Hide CD). Listen — Let’s make it two in a row for The Fore, okay? Just click here to vote!
More about this in the next post … but go on and cast your vote now!

Okay … that’s it for this edition. But stay tuned, ’cause there’s more in less than 24!

See ya on the flip side …

I wish the Dead would come over to Europe, but I know it will never happen.

Hey … DON’T GIVE UP!! YOU know the old saying: “If it plays in Peoria, it’ll play ANYWHERE!” Given the right money, and they’ll probably DO it!
