Simon, Garfunkel Reunite (& more news …)

Man, you heard everything but The Sounds of Silence at New York’s Beacon Theatre on Friday night.

The reason?  For the first time in over a decade, the duo of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel got together to perform three songs after Paul’s concert celebrating the famous theatre’s re-opening!
Interesting that, in the audience, another legend was enjoying the reunion effort … a singer named Paul McCartney!

Now, there’s been talk of a possible tour involving Paul and Art, but I wouldn’t bet the bank on it yet!  Though they got along well at the show (and haven’t lost a bit of their trademark harmony), there are still a lot of issues (as well as personal schedules) to work out.  But the good news is that they are apparently on good terms now, so it could happen!  (If Macca has anything to do with it, you know it will …)

IS THERE ANY ‘WONDER’??

Just learned that Stevie Wonder is gonna be honored with the Library of Congress award by President Obama on February 25 (Y”know, I still like the sound of that:  “President Obama”.  Tres cool …)
Now, a concert’s being organized in Stevie’s honor for that day in the East Room of the White House, and it’ll air a day later on PBS stations.
Yardbirds, if anybody deserves the honor, it’s Steveland Judkins!  He’s not only shown tenacity in this business, but, even more so, how to be “solid gold” and still have a heart and humble soul (and his music’s nothin’ less than the best!).

I GOT-CHA!! UH-HUH …

It’s about time we gave a huge prop to the late legend, who reminded us that it don’t matter if you’ve got Skinny Legs … who toldja to Hold On (To What You Got).

Y’see, Chicago’s Black Ensemble Theater (which has already produced musicals on the lives of Jackie Wilson, Dionne Warwick and Otis Redding) debuted its latest production, “I Gotcha: The Story of Joe Tex & the Soul Clan” on February 1. The musical was rated “Highly Recommended” this week by the theatre critic for the Chicago Sun-Times (’course, if they’re usin’ Joe’s numbers, it’s already outtasite!). The show, by the way, runs through March 28 — so if you’re in the Chi-Town area, be sure to take it in!
QUIZ-TIME:  For extra credit, class, can anyone tell me the other “members” of Joe’s famous “Soul Clan”? Just gimme a shout-out here or just leave a message at the sound of the … er, I mean, in the comments section below, okay (hmph … ’s what I get by usin’ the phone while I’m typin’ …)?

JOE TEX DOIN’ HIS HIT, I GOTCHA:
Of all the songs Joe did, this one (the title of the musical, btw) is my favorite. Well, along with Ain’t Gonna Bump No More (With A Big, Fat Woman), Skinny Legs and All and Show Me.

Well, with that, we’re comin’ to the end of another episode. But stay tuned … I Gotcha covered in less than 24 with more! So, until then …
Keep your eyes on the skies, your feet on the ground, your heart with the music … and I’ll see ya on the flip side …
