Missing on Baker St., Elton’s Movie and MORE …
Hey … remember how, last year, I toldja about Gerry Rafferty (of Stealers Wheel and Baker Street fame) bein’ reported as missing?
Well, it’s been more than six months since he disappeared from a London hospital, and there are new fears about his safety (ummm … shouldn’t they have had these before??). His SW bandmate, Tony Williams, said on Monday that his family hadn’t heard from Gerry since August 1 of last year!
BUT … yesterday, Gerry’s spokesperson said he’d been in contact with the singer two weeks ago, and he was alive and relatively well, despite his liver problems. His wife told a newspaper that the recluse is “fine. He’s got plenty of people looking after him.”
Oooookayyyy … but, um, notice they never answered the question: What happened to him? If and when I find anything out, you’ll read it here first …
SIR ELTON JOHN … FILM MAKER??
Well, more or less! Y’see, Elton John’s Rocket Pictures announced Tuesday that it’s set to produce a film later this year that combines Jane Austen’s England with sci-fi.
According to Elton’s … er, partner, David Furnish, “Pride And Predator” will place an “alien into the middle of a costume drama, where he stalks and slashes to horrific effect.”
I dunno about you, but, to me, that seems to be a setting for half the gore movies out today!
Tell ya what … why not make a movie about Sir Elton’s life over the past twenty years or so? That’d be scary enough!
FEBRUARY’S “JINX WEEK”
Now, we all know about the tragedy that hit rock-n-roll in its very heart back in 1959, but, apparently, in that first week in our second month, rock music was jinxed:
1959 - Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper were killed in a plane crash.
1960 - 20 year old Jesse Belvin, who scored a hit with “Goodnight, My Love”, died in an auto accident.
1967 - Joe Meek, producer of the Tornadoes hit, “Telstar”, committed suicide.
1976 - Rudy Pompilli, sax player for Bill Haley’s Comets, passed away.
1981 - Rock and Roll pioneer Bill Haley died of a heart attack at the age of 55.
1981 - Hugo Montenegro, who is best remembered for “The Good, The Bad & The Ugly”, died of emphysema.
1983 - Karen Carpenter died of heart irregularities caused by anorexia nervosa.
1990 - Del Shannon died of a self-inflicted gun shot wound. (Feb ![]()
1998 - 51 year old Carl Wilson, lead guitarist of The Beach Boys, died of lung cancer.
1998 - Falco, who had a hit with “Rock Me Amadeus,” was killed in a traffic accident.
Yeah … I’m with you: TGIO (Thank Goodness It’s Over) …
And, with that, we’re gonna take a break so the Double-E can get some much-needed sleep, but stay tuned … I’ll have more in 24 or less! Soooooo …
I’ll see ya on the flip side!
